Colombo: Media rights groups on Friday demanded international pressure on Sri Lanka after the murder of an anti-establishment editor.
The US-based Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) asked ambassadors in Colombo to "weigh in forcefully and immediately with President Mahinda Rajapakse to put an end to the attacks raining down on Sri Lanka's media."
The United States also joined in condemning Thursday's murder of Sunday Leader Editor Lasantha Wickrematunga.
The Free Media Movement and the Working Journalists Association demanded speedy investigations.
Meanwhile, in continuing violence in the country, troops battled Tamil Tigers in the north, while the rebels detonated a roadside bomb in the east, the military said on Friday.
The rebels triggered a roadside bomb as a convoy escorted by the troops passed by in the eastern city of Trincomalee, killing three air force troops and four civilians.
