Peshawar: At least 14 people were killed and 20 others injured when a speeding freight truck overturned after colliding with other vehicles in northwestern Pakistan on Friday, officials said.
The accident occurred in Pabbi, a town 30 kilometres (18 miles) east of Peshawar.
The 16-wheeler vehicle was carrying sugar from the southern port city of Karachi to the northwestern city of Nowshera.
"Fourteen people were killed and 20 others were injured in the accident," provincial information minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain said.
He said 10 bodies and the injured had been brought to a local hospital.
"The accident was caused due to speeding," Hussain said, adding that authorities had called in cranes to lift the truck and remove the victims.
Most of those killed or injured were passers-by and shopkeepers, Hussain said.
Pakistan has the world's third-highest death rate from traffic accidents, blamed on poor roads and reckless driving.
