New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Rajnath Singh is all set to impose his own personality in running the party.

Singh, who had taken over as BJP chief late last year, is scheduled to be formally elected to the post for a three-year tenure on Monday.

His election is considered just a formality with no other contender for the post in sight, although the party yesterday announced the election schedule.

While nominations will be filed for the new BJP president's post on Sunday, polling if required will take place on Monday.

BJP has a tradition of electing its presidents unanimously and the party has never witnessed a contest for the top post since its inception in 1980.

According to sources close to Singh, he has already taken a conscious decision to break free from his image of being a follower of the ageing duo, former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Leader of Opposition Lal Krishna Advani whom he replaced as the BJP president last year.
