Dhaka: Bangladesh said on Sunday it had delayed by 11 days until December 29 a parliamentary election which is expected to return the country to democracy after a long spell of emergency rule by an interim authority.
Chief Election Commissioner A.T.M. Shamsul Huda said the new date had been set after talks with the country's two main parties, the Awami League and Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and their allies.
The deadlines for submitting and withdrawing nominations for the parliamentary vote have been set for November 30 and December 11 respectively, he said.
