What do you get when you combine Hera Pheri and the Munnabhai series? A half-baked entertainer called C Kkompany.
In this film, debutant director Sachin Yardi tries his hand at social comedy, with producer Ekta Kapoor giving him a free hand to take potshots at her never-ending K-titled TV soaps.
Unfortunately, the film can’t handle the spoof and all you get is a bunch of good one-liners.
Ganging up
Akshay Kumar (Tusshar Kapoor), a crime reporter, Joshi (Anupam Kher), a retired accountant and Lambodar (Rajpal Yadav), a worker in a mall, are losers who share their joys and sorrows with each other.
To solve Joshi’s problem with his son, they make a prank extortion call, pretending to be gangsters.
This leads to the formation of a fake gang by the name C Kkompany, which soon becomes the talk of the town as the friends take up the mantle of modern-day Robin Hoods, solving social issues.
In the process, however, they incur the wrath of the local don, Dattu Satellite (Mithun Chakraborty), a man fascinated with television stars.
C Kkompany is based on an interesting premise and could have been a fun film with a good social message but there is no consistency in the script, which has too many loopholes.
Besides, Yardi’s directorial skills cannot go much beyond average. There are long, mundane sequences that are sure to put the audience to sleep.
Tusshar does show some improvement in this film but still has a long way to go before he can call himself an actor.
Doesn’t fit the bill
Kher is efficient and Yadav is hilarious in some scenes. Raima Sen doesn’t fit the bill as the glam doll — some of her dresses hurt the eye.
Chakraborty makes his presence felt but his character could have been far better etched.
Sanjay Dutt and Celina Jaitley’s item numbers don’t help much — the Jaitley track, in fact, is quite out of sync. Anand Raj Anand’s and Bappa Lahiri’s music is strictly average.
