Tenants have no water supply
Faiyaz Ahmad Ansari from Ajman asks: I live in a building and pay rent to a real estate company in Ajman. This real estate company has opened a laundry in our building, due to this some flats, including mine, do not get water as they are connected to the tank that the laundry is sharing. I have inquired about it but people say neither the municipality nor the water/electricity authority can do anything about this. Is this true? If so do we have no right to complain? Do we have to bear this injustice?
The problem, as I believe, does not lie in the existence of the laundry itself as the building is licensed for accommodation and commercial purposes. However, the solution for this problem can be to deal in an amicable manner with the real estate office who is responsible for the building and who is legally obliged to solve the problem. As per the law, if the real estate office is receiving rent from the tenant, then it should enable the tenant to properly utilise the premises.
Therefore, I advise the questioner to demand the real estate office either supply two water tanks; one for the building and the other for the laundry, or supply one huge tank that can solve the problem. In case the real estate agent does not respond to such a demand, then the questioner, along with the other tenants, can file a complaint with the Municipality's Rent Committee who will solve their problem.
