At first glance it might seem like a good week for horror fans in the UAE, with three high profile gore movies released last Thursday, but unfortunately all three have been panned by reviewers as dull, predictable and just not scary.

Catacombs's tagline promises to show a "world of darkness" beneath Paris's city of lights. But what viewers get for most of the movie's 100 minutes, is actress Shannyn Sossamon running up and down small corridors while screaming.

Film Critics United describes it as "one of the most worthless movies ever", and not even pop star Pink's supporting performance can save it.

Stone Council, a Buddhist themed horror movie starring screen legends Catherine Deneuve and Monica Belluci finally proves that the French can make bad movies.

"Most likely, this pic will soon be reincarnated on ancillary," writes Deborah Young of Variety.

And then there's Mirrors, which Nick Schager at Slant calls "a slab of shoddy, hollow rubbish that can't be bothered to concoct imaginative frights or even tenuous bonds between its supernatural terror and its characters' human drama".
