Dubai's Modhesh Fun City was transformed into a menagerie of madness for the Summer Surprises Pet Competition.
Furious felines, clever canines along with turtles and rabbits were preened and primped by their loving owners in the run up to the annual competition, which had four categories.
Organisers were once again inundated with entries for the Most Beautiful, Animal Skill and Fancy Dress categories with more than 25 competitors for each. The fourth category - Video Clip - was a new edition to the competition but did not attract any entries.
Pets of all sizes, shapes, and colours gathered at MFC to take part and the competition got off to a flying start with small and large dogs showing off their skills in various routines on the small stage.
Tricks and stunt
The audience clapped along enthusiastically as the animals worked the floor to show what they could do in the way of tricks and stunts.
Winners were chosen by a panel of expert judges including staff from the Al Barsha Vets Clinic which also donated prizes and vouchers for the lucky animals and owners who scooped the top dog spots.
Ayman was overjoyed when his dog, Foxy White, picked up the first prize in the Most Adorable Pet category. Khalid Bin Zabwi and his turtle got the second prize while Ahmad Mohammad Al Boloshi and his rabbit Susu received the third.
Ayman's other pet dog, Foxy Brown, took first prize in the Best Pet Costume category and said they were thrilled to have "sweep” this year's event.
Entertaining
Ahmad Ali, Modhesh Fun City manager, said: "Apart from providing owners the opportunity to bring their pets for a unique event, this competition is part of our efforts to reach out to wider audiences of different tastes. We can report that pet lovers in Dubai and visitors to MFC had a great time and enjoyed an exciting event which was thoroughly entertaining.”
The animal skills section saw more than 20 dogs perform but no winner was selected due to all the entries being of a similar standard.
The event, organised by Imagine Events, a Dubai-based company, was a major hit with people of all ages and manager Reham Ali said they are already looking forward to next year's competition.
Challenge
"It is always so much fun working with animals and this year was no exception. It is a challenge keeping the dogs away from each other and we managed to avoid any accidents and arguments which was a first.”
The Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS) extravaganza draws to a close tomorrow after 65 days of sales, activities and fun for all.
Categories
The event had four categories: Best Pet Costume, the Most Adorable Pet, Pet Skill Contest and the Best Pet Video. Winners were chosen by a panel of expert judges.
