Gaming fans are getting their fill of the newest PlayStation games at Modhesh Fun City during the Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS) 2008.

Aiming to give visitors the best possible free experience MFC organisers have set up four gaming booths with PS3 consoles. The games made available for trial on the stands are from the latest and most popular of their racing and adventure series such as Unchartered Drake's Fortune.

Great time

The zone is always crowded with keen gamers young and old who run and often pit their gaming skills against one another. Having a great time with his pals was Mohammad Adnan, a student at Ahlia Private School. He was with Karrar Haider and Hassan Al Burkat of the US, who are visiting the UAE as part of a summer break programme organised by their school.

Adnan says, “I love all the racing games especially Burnout Paradise. I'm real good at it and always I always beat my cousins. I can spend hours here and not have to spend a single penny. It's great!”

Abdul Rahman Arais, a grade nine student at Al Maktoum School Dubai says, “Summer is a time when we youngsters have not much to do. Last year I had taken up a summer job with the Immigration Department but since my family intends to travel this year I could not commit my services anywhere.”

Rahman continues that spending time with his friends at MFC kept the boredom at bay. “We usually get together and play games at arcades and malls. But that usually burns a hole in the pocket. The facilities here ensure that we have a larger set of options and there is no cost attached.”

His friend Ahmad Muhairi, a fireman at Al Ghusais station, who has been gaming for five years says, “I agree, the idea of PS3 at MFC gives us a lot to do at no additional cost. It's a good place to meet with friends. During holidays, we used to get our cousins together for football tournaments on the PSP. Being here with my friends reminds me of those special times we had.”

Housed at the Airport Expo in Dubai, MFC is open to from 10am to 10pm Saturday to Wednesday. On Thursdays and Fridays it remains open till midnight. Entry fee is Dh20.
