By the time 2008 begins, Scorpio, you may already sense that tidal changes will be sweeping through your life. This isn't exactly a surprise. The fact is, in many situations, you've been aware of the potential for such events for the past two years.

First, as a Scorpio, you were born as what is, perhaps, the most perceptive of signs. So, while others are questioning what's going on, with your ability to ask penetrating questions and to reflect long and hard — and to face — difficult facts, you'll have already realised that the structures which dominated the world around you, and your life, for the past decade or so are changing.

These changes are indicated by the move by your ruling planet, Pluto, from Sagittarius, where it's been since 1995, into the sign of structure, Capricorn in late January — on 26.

Just a word about Pluto's status as a planet. While many astronomers have demoted it, the fact is in astrology not all of the heavenly bodies which are spoken of are actually planets.

The Sun isn't a planet; it's actually a star. And of course, the Moon isn't a planet either, but a satellite — the earth's own satellite. So there's no need to worry about Pluto's status or that this undermines its power. It remains one of the most influential planets and, in fact, its move into a new sign, in 2008, influences everybody to a great degree.

From your point of view, this opens up a new world to you. Because Pluto moves to join the planet of growth and opportunity, Jupiter, in one of the most inquisitive parts of your chart at the end of January, to remain there until June, returning again at the end of the year, you'll find that you're in a period that is all about exploration, about exploring areas and ideas that either, previously, you wouldn't have thought would interest you or which you'd explored before and found unrewarding.

Although it may initially seem that you're being forced by the influences of the world around you or by others to explore these ideas or make changes, actually this is just part of this cycle of transformation.

Since 1995, since your ruler, Pluto, moved to accent the practical side of your life, your finances and your resources, you've learned a great deal.

Because Pluto moves so slowly, and it's in one sign for so long, the influence it brings to bear sort of settles in — it seems to become an unchanging reality. So this year, as it shifts into Capricorn and encourages you to broaden your horizons, it may seem that so much that's solid and familiar in your life is changing. It may even seem that if the world as you know it is coming to bits.

However, as you begin to explore, you'll realise that you're increasingly intrigued by the new ideas that come your way, and as a result of that, you'll feel a new freedom. You'll also benefit from the efforts you've made since 1995, while the emphasis was on life's practicalities. During this period you learned a great deal about yourself. You'll have faced difficult facts and organised areas of your life that you've either neglected or simply didn't know how to handle.

But that cycle is coming to a close and you're beginning a new one. What's most important, therefore, is that you recognise this as a time of exploration, rather than a time during which you must commit to making changes — changes that you may resist at first, and than make only grudgingly.

But these are still vital changes. That's because this being a period of exploration, you won't realise what suits you right away. Those insights will emerge only gradually.

This applies to several areas of your life as well. Some of what you're exploring will have to do with the people around you, both with changes in the lives of existing relationships and friendships and with new people you encounter. Others will be triggered by changing circumstances.

Whatever it is that you're actually dealing with, in spite of the pressure to make decisions, it's best to keep things loose until towards the end of the year. The reason for this is that as the year comes to a close and, on December 28, the planet of courage and initiative, Mars, actually meets your ruler, Pluto, with both of them newly arrived in Capricorn, you'll find that suddenly both what you've learned and changes in circumstance merge together.

Suddenly, things make sense. You'll have a new vision and yourself and what you could do. That will be the time to make a decision — a decision that requires courage, of which you'll have more than enough, and initiative.

Knowing that this pivotal time is coming, view as the year of exploration, discovery and reflection that it is, and instead of worrying about making decisions, you'll enjoy the journey that it is.
