FIRST TEST – New Delhi, India won by six wickets

** India hosted their first Test match for 20 months. The last Test match played on Indian soil was India v England at Mumbai, March 18, 2006.

** Anil Kumble became the 30th captain to lead India in Tests. He is the third from Karnataka after Gundappa Vishwanth and Rahul Dravid.

** He is also the third oldest India Test captain. The oldest, for the record, is Hemu Adhikari who was 39 years, 190 days when he led India against WI at Delhi.

** Kumble led his side after appearing in 118 Tests. He now holds the record for appearing in most Tests before leading. The earlier record was in the name of Australia’s Steve Waugh, who took 111 Tests before he skippered his side.

** Sachin Tendulkar overtook Alan Border to become the second highest run scorer in Test cricket.

** Kumble became the seventh Indian captain to win his first Test as captain.

** India won their seventh consecutive match at the Ferozshah Kotla. It was India’s second win over Pakistan at the Kotla in five games. Two Tests in 1960/61 and 1979/80 at this venue were drawn.

Second Test – Kolkata, match drawn

** Sachin Tendulkar completed 1,000 Test runs against Pakistan. He now has 1,000-plus runs against all Test-playing countries except Zimbabwe and Bangladesh.

** Tendulkar also passed 5,000 runs on Indian soil.

** India’s 352 for three was the highest score made
in India on the first day of a Test match. The previous best was 344 for six v Pakistan at Calcutta in 2004/05.

** Wasim Jaffer’s 202 is the highest individual score made by an India batsman at home against Pakistan. Both A. Gaekwad and Virender Sehwag made 201 at Jalandhar (1983/84) and Bangalore (2004/05) respectively.

** Jaffer became the eighth Indian to score two or more double hundreds in Tests.

** Sourav Ganguly scored his first Test hundred on his home ground.

** The 207-run partnership between Kamran Akmal and Misbah-ul-Haq equalled the best sixth-wicket partnership for Pakistan v India in Tests. Salim Malik and Imran Khan had also put on 207 v India at Faisalabad in 1982/83.

** Ganguly became the seventh Indian to complete 6,000 runs in Test cricket.

** Younis Khan and Mohammad Yousuf notched their ninth hundred-plus stand in Tests. This was, however, their first for the fifth wicket.

** Younis Khan also became the third Pakistan captain to score a hundred in India. Eight Pakistan captains have now have scored hundreds in Test matches against India.

Third Test – Bangalore, match drawn

** Sachin Tendulkar missed his 12th Test match since making his debut. For the record, he had not missed a single Test against Pakistan.

** Rahul Dravid played his 50th Test match in India. Sunil Gavaskar has played the most (65).

** The fifth-wicket partnership of 300 between Sourav Ganguly and Yuvraj Singh was the second highest by two left-handers in Test cricket. The highest being 322, also for the fifth wicket, between Brian Lara and Jimmy Adams for West Indies v Australia at Kingston in 1998/99.

** When India scored 365 for five on the first day they recorded the highest team score made on the opening day of a Test match in India. The previous highest was 362 for seven by Aus v Ind at Nagpur in 2004/05.

** Sourav Ganguly scored the first double hundred of his Test career in his 99th Test. He holds the record for having played the most Test matches before scoring his first double ton.

** Yasir Aafat became the fifth Pakistan bowler to take five wickets on Test debut. He also holds the dubious distinction of becoming the first to concede 150-plus runs in his first Test innings.

** India’s extras total of 76 was a world record of most extras conceded by a team in Tests.

** Ishant Sharma (five for 118) became the youngest India paceman to take five wickets in an innings in a Test match. Ishant, at 19 years, 100 days, beat the record of Chetan Sharma who was 19 years, 249 days-old when he claimed five for 118 v Sri Lanka at Colombo in 1985/86.

** Misbah-ul-Haq batted for 1,468 mins (24 hours and 28 minutes) in the series to score 464 runs, facing 1,058 balls (176.2 overs).

** India beat Pakistan in a Test series in India for the first time since 1979/80.

** Anil Kumble (centre of picture) became only the second India captain, after Ajit Wadekar, to win his first Test series. Wadekar won the five-match Test series 1-0 in the West Indies (1970/71).
