Dubai: The Al Nasr volleyball team are well on their way to recapturing the league title which they lost last season.

The team currently top the first division with 27 points after beating Ajman 3-0 (25-17, 25-23 and 25-21) in the ninth week of the tournament at the Ajman indoor sports hall.

Al Nasr won the title for five successive years between 2002 and 2007 but lost it last season to Al Ain.

This season they have not lost a match since the start of the league in September.

Younis Sherrif, Al Nasr volleyball team manager, said: "The team is doing well from the first match in the league.

"We deal with all matches as if its a cup final.

"Winning is a main target for our players without recklessness or underestimating opponents even if they are not a strong team," he said.

Al Nasr last match in the league's first round will be against Al Wasl.

Sherrif said: "The match will be postponed until the end of January due to the national team participation in the Gulf cup in Muscat."

The team manager said the team lost the title last season due to playing in many tournaments at the same time.

Tournaments

He said: "We focused on the GCC Clubs Championships in Bahrain where we finished second on sets difference, although we were favourites and top the standings till the last day.

"However we compensated last season by winning the President's Cup.

"In the current season we will be looking to clinch all titles and our team is capable of doing so as we used to do in the last seasons when we dominated the volleyball scene in the UAE."
