Dubai: Porsches dominated the top two positions in qualifying for today's Toyo Tires 24 Hours of Dubai.
Italian squad Autorlando Sport will start from pole position in their Porsche 997 RSR, which was over half a second quicker than a similar machine in Land Motorsport colours.
The race, which is under the patronage of Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and the President of Dubai Autodrome, will be flagged off at 2pm by FIA vice-president and ATCUAE President Mohammad Bin Sulayem.
The Equipe Verschuur Renault Megane Trophy powered to third spot on the grid ahead of an impressive performance from Saudi Arabian team of Al Faisal Racing, who qualified their BMW Z4 M Coupe in fourth place with another Porsche 997 of Lukas Motorsport taking fifth place.
Local attention was focused on the Khaleji Motorsport entries consisting of a Ferrari and Porsche with local hero Shaikh Hasher Al Maktoum in the former with Dubai-based aces Karim Al Azhari and Tarek Elgammal in the Porsche.
The Ferrari drivers managed an impressive sixth place in qualifying, fastest in the SP2 Class by nearly two seconds.
