Dubai: A golf coach, who has helped a Major winner, will use Dubai Sports City as his base as he instructs everyone from PGA Tour professionals to beginners.
Claude Harmon III, son of legendary golf coach Butch Harmon, has coached Trevor Immelman, who won this year's US Masters, as well as Darren Clarke and Adam Scott.
The coach has come to the Dubai Sports City to oversee the new Butch Harmon School of Golf.
The school, which organisers say is the first such facility outside the US, should be finished by the end of 2008 and should offer bespoke coaching for professionals and amateurs.
Khalid Zarooni, President of Dubai Sports City, said: "Claude Harmon's presence at The Butch Harmon School of Golf virtually ensures Dubai Sports City's place as the UAE's golf tuition centre of excellence.
Top facilities
"Few other Dubai clubs can boast facilities and instructors capable of instructing professional-level, PGA Tour players.
"Claude Harmon III comes from a family of immense golfing talent, and it is a great honour that he will live and work at Dubai Sports City, building on his family's tradition of developing some of the best golfers on tour," said Zarooni.
Harmon was most recently based at the Trump National Golf Course in the Los Angeles.
The golf school, which is based at The Els Club in the Sports City, will house a state-of-the-art performance institute, include physical screening and three dimensional video analysis.
To complement the technology, Harmon brings a unique teaching philosophy that began with his grandfather, the 1948 US Masters Champion. It is a philosophy based on helping each person understand his own unique game.
Estimates from the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing show the number of golf courses in Dubai will triple over the next ten years.
The school is one of seven different academies at the Sports City, with football, rugby, hockey, swimming, tennis and cricket housed within the complex.
All of the academies will offer local sportsmen and women the chance to train and compete in some of the best facilities in the world.
