Dubai: The UAE clubs will have to kick out some of their old habits before entering the new era - the first-ever professional league next season.
The frequent sacking of coaches either during the season or even just after a few games have drawn unjustified attention. Last year, a club sacked their coach after the first match of the season.
Hatta sacked Tunisian coach Sofian Haydousy after losing 6-0 against Ittihad Kalba in the President's Cup first round.
They replaced him with Brazilian Dominiquz Elias, who again was sacked, paving the way for the return of Iranian Ebrahim Qasimbour, who helped them win promotion a year ago. But still the team were relegated.
This phenomenon of sacking coaches have to change in the new professional league next season. The club board has to give the coach sufficient time and take stock of the situation at the end of the season, but not at the middle of a season. This move will also give time for the new coach to settle down with the team during the off season.
Six clubs in the coming professional league have retained their coaches, while the rest decided to take a fresh guard. The six new comers for the professional league next season are: Brazilian Abel Braga for Al Jazira, Czech Republic Meroslav Beranek for Al Wasl, Tunisian Yousuf Al Zuwawi for Sharjah, Croatian Luka Berosevic for Al Shabab, Iraqi Abdul Wahab Abdul Qader for Ajman and Tunisian Samir Al Juwaily for Al Khaleej.
League champions Al Shabab have retained Brazilian coach Toninho Cerezo, while President's Cup champions Al Ahli have also kept Czech coach Ivan Hasek for the second successive season.
Al Ain are the other team to keep German Winfried Schaefer despite the team finishing sixth in the league, while Al Wahda, who struggled last season, renewed the contract of Egyptian Ahmad Abdul Halim.
Croatian Luka Bonacic of Al Nasr and Egyptian Ayman Al Ramady of Al Dhafra have also retained their jobs.
