Dubai: Former UAE champions Al Ahli have remained non-committal on ex-England striker Robbie Fowler's alleged move to Dubai.

"I do not want to comment on the matter. I will speak [about] it after a few days," Khalifa Saeed, President of the Al Ahli Club's board of directors, told Gulf News.

On Monday, British newspaper The Sun reported that the Cardiff City Football Club were desperately trying to stop Fowler from shifting to the UAE for the start of the new season in September.

The speculation revolved around the fact that the fourth highest goalscorer in Premier League history might turn down an extended contract offer from the club due of the move.

The newspaper also stated that in addition to owning half of Liverpool, Fowler has purchased some property in Dubai.

Moreover, his agent George Scott has indicated in the past that the player could be in favour of moving to either Qatar or Dubai.

Moving rumours

He was also rumoured to move Down Under to Sydney with Perth Glory FC.

Fowler's career began with Liverpool when he signed as a youth team player in 1991.

He made his first-team debut the following season and was soon established as a regular first-team player. The striker scored 120 premiership goals for Liverpool in an eight-year period.

He subsequently played for Leeds United and Manchester City, before returning to Liverpool in January 2006. Eighteen months later, he departed again to sign for Cardiff City, where he is currently.

Newspaper says that in addition to owning half of Liverpool, Fowler has purchased some property in Dubai.
