Ajman: International cricket is set to be played at Ajman after the emirate's cricket council was given the go-ahead to build a new turf pitch.
The Ajman Cricket Council has permission to build five new cricket grounds, including an international standard turf wicket, in the next five months.
As a result Ajman would host international games confirmed the Emirates Cricket Board.
Mazhar Khan, the Board administrator, said: "Once the turf ground is complete, Ajman will be given international matches. It will be a big boost for the game here."
Shaji Ul Mulk, the secretary of the Ajman Cricket Council, said they planned to spend Dhs 3million on the new facilities.
Floodlit ground
He said: "The Ajman Cricket Council has been allotted space to make five grounds including a floodlit turf ground. This will help us stage more tournaments.
"We already have ten grounds and the number of council grounds will increase to 15.
"The five grounds are on road level and will not be affected by rain, which had stopped many of our tournaments last year," added Mulk.
The Ajman council also plan to build a club house with a gymnasium, swimming pool and sauna.
Mulk added: "We will have our cricket academy and practice pitches there and will hire coaches."
