Sharjah: A 100-run stand in just seven overs kept the crowds enthralled at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Friday night.
The game saw Al Hamad Contracting hit 281 for 3 in the Sharjah Ramadan Rufi Cup Twenty20 tournament.
Hamid Ali of Al Hamad Contracting hit the competition's first century and he got a standing ovation for his spectacular knock that helped his team score an emphatic 196-run victory over Step Electro Mechanical.
Opening the innings with left-handed Khurram Shehzad, right-handed Ali went for his shots from the off. The put put on 100 runs in just seven overs.
Ali hit 12 boundaries and four well timed sixes. He was so dominant that when he reached his century, Shehzad had scored just 37.
"Conditions were tough. Initially, I played very carefully but then I realised luck is with me and went for my shots.
"I am delighted to get the first century of the tournament," said Ali, who had won the man of the tournament last year.
Ali finally fell for 102 playing a lofted square drive and was caught at the deep point boundary.
After his departure, Shehzad took charge and hit some superb sixes with the highlight being a strike from outside off-stump that went over the mid wicket boundary. His 66 off 38 balls contained five fours and four sixes. Al Hamad posted 281 for 3 in their 20 overs.
A shattered Step Electro team could not put up much of a fight and only managed 85 for 7 in one of the biggest defeats of the tournament.
Fly Emirates
In another match, Fly Emirates defeated Fortune Group by four wickets thanks to UAE all-rounder Arshad Ali's fine performance.
Fortune Group were restricted to 146 for 9 after Ali took three wickets.
Emirates reached the target with four balls to spare and Ali top scored with 42. Mohammad Iqbal chipped in with 40 runs.
Umar's impressive three wicket spell for Fortune went in vain.
