Occupied Jerusalem: The Israeli government has said that Thursday’s shootings at a Jewish religious school will not affect peace talks.

At least eight people were killed and 35 wounded when gunmen opened fire in the Mercaz Harav seminary in West Jerusalem.

However the Israeli foreign ministry said talks would continue with Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas, who has condemned the attack.

Israeli spokesman Mark Regev said: "Those celebrating these murders have shown themselves to be the enemies not only of Israel, but the enemies of peace and reconciliation.”

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has also condemned the attack.

However the UN Security Council failed to agree on a statement about the shootings after several countries, including Libya, asked for any text to include condemnation of Israel for the recent attacks in Gaza.
