Occupied Jerusalem: Two gunmen entered the dining room of a Jewish religious school in Occupied Jerusalem and opened fire last night, killing at least nine students, police and rescue workers said

Israeli media said about 35 people were wounded. Channel 2 TV said police special forces killed the two infiltrators. Israeli television said there may have been a third attacker, who escaped.

Ambulances raced to the scene from around the city. Media reports said many people were wounded, Hundreds of police surrounded the area and searched the campus.

The gunmen entered a dining hall where about 80 people were gathered, witnesses said, and opened fire. “There are at least nine killed and 10 people wounded,” said Eli Dein, director of Israel’s rescue service.

The seminary is identified with the leadership of the Jewish colonist movement in the West Bank. As sirens wailed in the background, an emergency worker told Israel Radio he counted eight bodies at the seminary, which was founded more than 80 years ago.

“There was a lot of gunfire and hysteria,” a woman who lives across the street from the school told the radio. There was no immediate claim of responsibility.

In the Gaza Strip, gunmen fired in the air to celebrate the attack, three days after Israel ended a military offensive in the Hamas-run territory that killed more than 120 Palestinians, about half of whom were identified as civilians.

“This heroic attack is a normal response to the crimes of the occupier and its murder of civilians,” Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zohri said.

Separately, four Palestinians were killed in an Israeli air raid on the Gaza Strip late last night.
