Tel Aviv: Israel was placed on second-highest level of alert on Tuesday after a suicide bombing at a shopping mall killed at least three people, Israel Radio reported.
Thousands of police officers were deployed throughout the city as the Israeli police chief said there could be attempts to carry out more attacks.
A woman was killed when a suicide bomber blew himself up in a shopping mall in the southern town of Dimona. A second would-be suicide bomber was shot by police.
"We think that following the attack that happened in Dimona, there may be an attempt to carry out more," police chief Berti Ohayon told Israel Radio.
Police have set up roadblocks at city entrances and were patrolling along Israel's borders, Occupied Jerusalem and Tel Aviv.
Different Palestinian militant groups have claimed responsibility for the attack.
In a farewell video, one of the bombers said he wanted to strike against Israel's siege of the Gaza Strip and “restore dignity to the Palestinian people”.
Thousands of Palestinians have crossed into Egypt to buy basic supplies after Hamas breached the border with Egypt in retaliation to Israeli control over the Gaza Strip.
Hamas has blamed Israel for sparking a humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, while Israel argued that it only tightened control over the area to force Hamas to stop rocket attacks.
