Ramallah: Female supports of Hamas are staging a protest at the Egypt-Gaza border on Saturday as Hamas vowed it would not allow the border to close again.

Egypt has repeatedly tried to seal the border, which Hamas breached last month to enable hundreds and thousands of Gazans to buy food supplies in Egypt.

Food and fuel supplies have been running low in Gaza ever since Israel tightened its hold on the territory to force Hamas to stop rocket attacks into Israeli towns.

The United States and Israel have pressured the Egyptian government to secure the breached border, citing terrorism fears.

EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana is due in Egypt later on Saturday to try to resolve the border standoff.
