Tel Aviv: Israel has reassured the US ambassador in Tel Aviv that the country will not build a new settlement in northern Occupied Jerusalem, Israel Radio reported on Friday.
Media reports this week said that the Israeli housing minister is considering building more than 10,000 new apartments in the area.
In a message to US ambassador Richard Jones, Israel reiterated that it would not build new settlements in occupied territory or authorise new land confiscations.
However, it said that a project to build 307 new houses on Occupied Jerusalem's southern outskirts would continue.
Ahead of the US-hosted Middle East peace conference last month, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert pledged there would be no new settlements in the occupied areas.
