Ammam:  Jordanian authorities say a gunman shot and wounded six Lebanese near a Roman amphitheater in downtown Amman.

A witness says the gunman shot himself as police were pursuing him.

Jordan's state minister for information, Nasser Judeh, is describing the shooting as a ´criminalª incident and says it does not appear to be related to terrorism.

He says the six Lebanese were lightly injured in Wednesday's shooting and that the gunman is in critical condition after shooting himself in the head.

There have been a number of shootings and other attacks in the Jordanian capital in recent years, some of them targeting tourists. The country's worst terror attack was a triple suicide bombing at Amman hotels that killed 63 people in 2005.
