Cairo: At least 21 members of the Muslim Brotherhood were detained by Egyptian police in the Nile Delta province of Sharkia, the Brotherhood and security sources said on Thursday.

The members were detained on Wednesday night at the home of a Brotherhood leader and former parliamentarian, Sayed Abdel Hamid, the Brotherhood said.

The men are being held on suspicion of belonging to an illegal organisation, and of holding a meeting and possessing literature of a banned organisation

Forty Brotherhood members have been detained in separate raids this month, a Brotherhood official said.
