Dubai: President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan and His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai received condolences yesterday following the burial of Shaikh Maktoum.

Shaikh Khalifa and Shaikh Mohammad were condoled by His Highness Shaikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani of Qatar, His Majesty King Hamad Bin Eisa Al Khalifa of Bahrain, Djibouti President Esmail Omar Guelleh, King Abdullah II of Jordan, Turkish Prime Minister R. Tayyip Erdogan, Egyptian Prime Minister Ahmad Nadeef, Pakistani Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, Tunisian First Minister Mohammad Al Ganouchi, Omani Deputy Prime Minister Fahd Bin Mahmoud Al Saeed, Prince Salman Bin Abdul Aziz of Riyadh, Prince Rasheed of Morocco, Algerian Assembly Speaker Abdul Qader Saleh, Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki and Egyptian Defence Minister Mohammad Hussain Tantawi.

They also received condolences from a high-ranking British delegation, who conveyed the condolences of Queen Elizabeth II and Prime Minister Tony Blair.

The delegation was led by the Duke of Gloucester, representing the Queen and the royal family and included Dr Kim Howells, Minister of State in the Foreign Office, representing the government.

Khalifa received telephone calls from Syrian President Bashar Al Assad and Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.

Shaikh Khalifa received condolence cables from Presidents Muammar Gaddafi of Libya, Isaias Afewerke of Eritrea, Moritz Leuenberger of Switzerland, Ilham Aliev of Azerbaijan, Bharrat Jagdeo of Guyana, Omar Hassan Ahmad Al Basheer of Sudan, Abdullah Yousuf Ahmad of Somalia, Mahmoud Ahmadi-nejad of Iran and Emile Lahoud of Lebanon.

Iraq's Vice-President Gazi Al Yawar and Prime Ministers Mikhail Mikhail Fradkov of Russia, Khaleda Zia of Bangladesh and Jens Stolt-enberg of Norway as well as Prince Fahd Bin Sultan Bin Abdul Aziz, Governor of Tabuk, Dr Mohammad At Twaijri, Director General of the Arab Administrative Development Organisation, Eyad Allawi, former prime minister of Iraq and Kofi Annan, Secretary-General of the United Nations have also cabled their condolences to the president.

Shaikh Mohammad also received cables of condolences from Angela Merkel, the German Chancellor, Prime Ministers Ali Mohammad Gidi of Somalia and Li Han Chan of Korea, and from Dr Shukri M. Ganem, Secretary of the Libyan People's General Committee and Dr Ali Abdul Salaam Al Tureiki, the secretary for African Unity Affairs at Libya's People's General committee for External Communication and International Cooperation.

Shaikh Khalifa received cables from Presidents Ricardo Lagus Escobar of Chile, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam of India, Mathieu Kérékou of Benin, Viktor Yush-chenko of Ukraine, Islam Karimov of Uzbekistan and Thabo Mbeki of South Africa.

He also received cables from Prime Minister Juni-chiro Koizumi of Japan, Shaikh Hamad Bin Jasim Bin Jabr Al Thani, First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Qatar, Joseph Sarkis, Lebanese Tourism Minister, Pierre Gemayel, Lebanese Industry Minister, former Lebanese Presidents Ameen Gemayel and Elias Hrawi, Walid Junblatt, Head of the Lebanese Progressive Socialist Party, Jihad Azour, Lebanese Finance Minister, Dr Khalid Mustafa Mureb, Chairman of Al Maria University in Lebanon, and Dr Omar Mseika, Chairman of the Islamic Cultural Centre in Beirut.

Shaikh Mohammad has received cables of condolences from Shaikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah, Kuwaiti Prime Minister, Uri Evanov, Ukranian Prime Minister, Prince Mohammad Bolkiah, Brunei's Foreign and Commerce Minister, Mohammad Bin Nawaf Bin Abdul Aziz, Saudi Arabian Ambassador in the UK and Ireland, and Lawyer Shaikh Mohammad Rasheed Al Miqati, Chairman of Tripoli University in Lebanon.
