Born in 1961, General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, has held several top positions and has benefited from a wide range of experiences.

He was appointed Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi in November 2004. In January 2005, Shaikh Mohammad was named Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

Soon after he was promoted to the rank of General. He has been chairing the Abu Dhabi Executive Council since December 2004.

Shaikh Mohammad was educated in the UAE and England. He graduated from the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst in 1979. He also trained in basic armour, basic flying, helicopter conversion, tactical flying and basic paratroops.

He completed the Staff College course. Shaikh Mohammad's vast military experience includes commanding an armoured unit, a Gazelle helicopter squadron, the Air School and Air College.

He was Commander of the UAE Air Forces and Air Defence, Deputy Chief-of-Staff of the UAE Armed Forces and Chief-of-Staff of the UAE Armed Forces.

He was Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan's principal adviser on security issues. He is president of the Emirates Centre for Strategic Studies and Research (ECSSR).

Shaikh Mohammad is a member of the Supreme Petroleum Council and is also Head of the UAE Offsets Group, which is the main economic planning institution in the UAE.

He has received several citations and decorations from the UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, Morocco, Pakistan, the United States, the UK, France and Italy.
