How can a group that claims to be the defender of a nation against the occupation send a child on a suicide mission? Worse, how can a parent agree that his or her daughter should blow herself up in a crowded market or a military checkpoint?
Dreadful. But that is exactly what happened in Iraq on Wednesday. Scores of people were killed in the blast, which clearly shows the moral, ethical and even logistical bankruptcy of the so-called armed resistance groups in Iraq.
Resisting the occupation is a moral duty. It is a noble idea. But what these groups have been doing in Iraq has nothing to do with resistance. Butchering, kidnapping, torturing and blackmailing your people is what is expected of the occupiers.
Iraqi leaders, clerics and civil society groups must stand up to these ruthless groups and keep Iraqi children out of the conflict.
