Adnan Sipten Kapadia, grade 13 student from Cambridge International School Dubai (CIS), was among the top 10 students worldwide named by Edexcel, the UK's largest educational awarding body.

The ratings issued recently show that Kapadia achieved one of the highest overall marks on the CIS mathematics exam.

"It's a matter of pride for the whole school that one of our students has made his way to the ranks of the smartest and brainiest," said Kapadia's teacher and head of mathematics, Alan Fearnahough.

Kapadia says that the secret behind his success is his consistent studying and the support of his maths teacher and parents.

"Throughout the year I maintained good scores and I always practised," he said. "My teacher also gave me the confidence I needed to do well in the exam. He was always there for any questions I had."

Kapadia aims to keep his penchant for mathematics alive and pursue a chemical engineering degree in the United States.

"I've always had a fascination for maths and chemistry, and this major provides the perfect combination," he said. "I also like a hands-on approach to learning, and chemical engineering embodies the creativity I'm looking for."

Keeping realistic goals is what Kapadia advises students who hope to make similar achievements.

"It's important to set goals at intervals," he said. "When you reach a goal, set a higher one."
