The Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT) in Dubai recently held a welcoming reception for its new students to guide them at the start of the academic year.

A comprehensive orientation programme was designed to ease the students' transition into academic life.
Students were introduced to their faculty and college rules, procedures and policies and facilities.

With the presence of heads of departments and faculty, new students gathered in the main auditorium to meet and greet their faculty, supervisers and staff members.

"Starting college can be a daunting prospect, but we will help to make the transition to life in the college as smooth as possible," said Peter Hatherley-Greene, foundations chair at HCT.

"To help students settle in, the college offers a comprehensive orientation programme where students learn all about studying in the college and how to use all the facilities on campus. It is especially developed for students who are new to academic life."

Phil Corcos, associate director, highlighted the importance of the programme.

"Many informative sessions and presentations have been used to introduce both general and specific information about the college and the short courses that will make new students productive in a short period," he said.

"To get the most out of their time, new students are provided with practical tips on how to adapt to university life with ease."
