Notes asks students in the UAE why they have chosen to live in a dorm and what, to them, is the biggest disadvantage of living alone.
Here's what they said:
You get to socialise with a lot of people and make very close friends. You become that much closer than if you were living off campus. Philip Tarasov Marketing, American University in Dubai (AUD)
It teaches you to do things independently from your laundry to cooking and making friends. Interacting with different cultures is also a plus. Sameer Khan BBA finance, AUD
It's very convenient living in the dorms and the social life is better where you make more friends. Fatima Al Zawqari Finance, AUD
We can come to the labs whenever we want. In my major I spend a lot of time there and the easy access is great. Shurooque Baloch Electrical engineering, AUD
What is the biggest disadvantage of living alone?
"Well, in my opinion there are more advantages to living alone. But if I had to chose one thing it would be that there's no one to wash your dishes." Amir Ahmadi Mechanical engineering, American University of Sharjah (AUS)
"There are many disadvantages. There is no one to take care of you like at home, and you can't share your emotions." Soroush Rabie Chemical engineering, AUS
"I would have to say the biggest disadvantage is that you waste a lot of time with friends and it's easy to get distracted." Bassam Akl Mechanical engineering, AUS
"There's no one take care of you if you fall sick or make you breakfast, lunch or dinner. You have to take care of yourself." Tarek Abu Gali Civil engineering, AUS
