Sharjah: Six people were killed and three injured in two separate road accidents over the last two days due to speeding, Sharjah Police said on Tuesday.
The first accident took place on Maleiha Road on Monday at 5.20pm, while police were trying to extinguish a burning truck in the middle of the road that was holding back traffic.
A speeding pick-up truck was travelling in the right lane from Maleiha to Sharjah when a heavy vehicle in the left-hand side tried to enter the lane.
The Pakistani driver of the pick-up truck, Shakir D.S., 50,tried to avoid the heavy vehicle by exiting the main road.
However, the driver found himself caught between the heavy vehicle and the burning truck and collided. He and his four passengers, three Indians and a Nepalese, were killed on the spot.
Police identified the Indians passengers as Lakhbir S.S., 50, Othman B.H., 21, and Nofal A.B., 23, and the Nepalese as Ram D.N., 51.
Police patrols removed the bodies that were rammed between the heavy vehicles. The accident held up traffic for more than an hour.
In a separate road accident that occurred on Tuesday at 4.30am at the National Paints bridge on Sharjah Ring Road, a UAE national woman, A.A.W., 36, was killed after her vehicle collided with another motorist.
A UAE national man, A.A.D., 31, was speeding at the roundabout from Sharjah heading to Dubai when he skidded, hit the pavement and overturned.
The driver and the two passengers sustained moderate injuries, according to police.
