Sharjah: Residents are weary of waiting for a multi-storey car park since it has become almost impossible to find a parking space.

"I have heard about the new indoor car park but wonder when it will finally be ready. We really need to have more parking spaces because it is impossible to find one, especially in the evenings," said Ammar Musallam.

Sharjah Municipality announced last year that several multi-storey car parks will be built throughout the city.

"My building does not provide any parking for residents, so I have to drive up to 30 minutes sometimes to find a free parking spot that is far away from my house. Having a multi-storey car park will help ... and it will be better if we can have it soon," said Khalid Ali.

The municipality has so far completed 11 per cent of the multi-storey car parks in Al Majaz, much to the disappointment of residents.

"The eight-storey building will be completed by April 2009, at a cost of Dh21 million, and will provide 1,819 parking spaces," said Abdulrahman Al Mahmoud, Head of Transport and Freight Department at Sharjah Municipality.
