Dubai: His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has approved the Al Sufooh Tram Project.

The tram project, stretching 14 kilometers, will link Madinat Jumeirah and Mall of the Emirates with Dubai Marina and Jumeirah Beach Residence, offering easy transport option for residents, announced Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai, on Tuesday.

The Dh4 billion project with 19 stations will make commuting in the new Dubai developments cheap and easy.

The contract for the project has been awarded to a consortium of major international companies.

"The project is set to serve residential and commercial areas spread along the path of the Al Sufouh Tram Project. In the last few years, the area has seen high-class development," said Al Tayer.

The tram will complement the Dubai Metro project that is nearing completion.
