Sharjah: Sharjah Police have denied news published in a section of the local media about a man who had allegedly raped several women.
Police said no such incident happened and termed the news baseless and ridicules.
"It is strange for the media to spread such rumours among the people," said a senior official from Sharjah Police. He said some sections of the media reported on Thursday a Pakistani man had raped seven women in Sharjah over the past two weeks and that the women were from India and Pakistan.
The report also mentioned the man used to attack women in their apartments in the absence of their husbands.
"What is mentioned in the report is not true as it never happened," he added.
Officials at Al Kuwaiti Hospital told Gulf News some reporters from English and Arabic newspapers had approached the hospital on Wednesday, seeking to know if any of the "raped" women had been hospitalised.
"We assured the reporters that we had no rape, assault or sexual harassment cases - not at least in the past three months," the official commented.
The official said newspaper reports stated DNA test confirmed the man had raped the women.
"[But] We have no laboratory for conducting such tests. All such cases are referred to the Dubai Police forensic laboratory. But we have not sent samples from any rape case recently," the official added.
