Abu Dhabi: The Interpol on Thursday issued an arrest warrant against Ervin Bee Knox, the chief executive officer (CEO) of Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank (ADCB).
The warrant, which was issued by the Interpol’s Makati branch in the Philippines, described the offences committed by Knox as “crimes against life and health.”
The warrant was followed immediately by an official statement by ADCB denying that the offences are related to any banking activities, and emphasizing its support for the chief executive.
“This is a personal issue not related to the bank's business. The bank and its executive management confirm their full support and ratification of all the CEO's actions,” the statement said.
“The issuance of an Interpol Red Notice against the CEO is just a personal issue regarding a matrimonial matter and has nothing to do with the Bank's business,” the statement further explained stating that the marital proceedings filed and examined before the UAE courts of law were adjudged in favor of Knox and that the court decision at present is pending execution.
The request for a red notice is usually presented to the Interpol by local authorities, who, according to the bank’s officials, acted in response to some influence exerted by the divorced.
Knox, age 59, was born in Oklahoma, USA, and has served as a country chief executive for Standard Chartered Bank in the Philippines, where he married the plaintiff wife, and joined ADCB in 2003.
