Dubai: Two Emirati students have been jailed for nearly blinding a driver after assaulting him with knuckledusters in a road rage incident.
The Dubai Court of First Instance sentenced the Emiratis, 22-year-old F.A. and 20-year-old A.A., to a year in jail each.
Medical records said the 29-year-old victim sustained a five per cent permanent disability to his left eye.
The victim, S.S., said the assailants called him an animal as they hit him. The accused denied assault and pleaded not guilty before the Dubai Court of First Instance.
"I didn't stop him, he forced me to pull over and walked towards me," one of the students told the court.
F.A. was charged with endangering S.S.'s life when he broke suddenly in front of his vehicle. A.A. was charged with causing Dh8,244 worth of damage to S.S.'s vehicle.
Presiding Judge Abdul Majid Al Nezamy referred the victim's civil claim of Dh20,000 in temporary compensation to the Dubai Civil Court.
S.S. testified: "The suspects' car jumped one lane and chased me. A.A. threw a heavy piece of metal at my car. We pulled over and we walked out of our vehicles. They assaulted me with a knuckleduster.."
