Dubai: Two men who tried to sell two women to a man working for the police for Dh9,000 for prostitution, have been sentenced to 10 years in jail, a court ruled.
Dubai Court of First instance sentenced a 34-year-old Indian, S.F., and his 36-year-old compatriot, F.T., to 10 years in jail. They will be deported after serving their terms.
The two men faced charges of human trafficking, locking up girls in a room while S. F. was also charged with running a brothel for three months.
According to police records, the two suspects besides two unidentified suspects were able to lock up the two victims - M. and A. - in a room in Al Hamriya.
The two suspects were planning to sell the victims, an Indonesian woman aged 29, and a Bangladeshi woman aged 23.
The two victims who were working as housemaids with different families had escaped from their sponsors and the two suspects forced them to work as prostitutes and assaulted them when they refused the offer.
In June last year, Dubai Police set a trap and sent a police source to 'buy' the girls. He met them and they said they would hand over the girls for Dh9,000,
"When we arrested [the men], they pleaded guilty to the charges and said that they were running a brothel," a police officer said.
