Ras Al Khaimah: A plan will be put in place in Ras Al Khaimah to arrest beggars during Ramadan.
A total of 27 beggars of various nationalities have already been arrested in Ras Al Khaimah since the beginning of the year.
Lieutenant Colonel Salem Al Za'abi, who heads the Criminal Investigation Department, said a major police campaign will be organised covering all the emirate's areas to arrest beggars. He said the plan has been designed to fight begging and was finalised in preparation for Ramadan.
Lieutenant Colonel Al Za'abi said the entrances of mosques, shopping malls, markets and even roads leading to residential areas will be put under strict police surveillance to follow the movement of beggars in the emirate.
He added that beggars take advantage of religious and spiritual feelings which spread among the public during Ramadan.
