Al Ain: Police has on Sunday has asked buildings and shop owners to move warehouses and storage away from the residential and market areas in view of the public safety.

Major General Mohammad Bin Awadi Al Menhali, Acting Director General of Operations at the Directorate General of Abu Dhabi Police, said buildings and shop owners are bound to ensure people safety.

The police have recently evacuated a five-story building in downtown Al Ain when the warehouse of Khaja Stores, a popular herb store, caught fire. The warehouse was located in the basement of the building and fire-fighters took two days in putting out the fire.

Colonel Hamad Ajlan Al Ameemi, Director of Al Ain Police, appreciated the police and other departments' efficiency in the incident and asked building and shop owners to stop allowing the use of their premises as warehouses.

He said the police had given temporary hotel accommodation to the residents of the building on humanitarian grounds. "Police evacuated the building for the protection of the residents and took their complete care," he said.

He also appealed to the people to quickly evacuate the place in such fire incidents. People must lend their cooperation in allowing access to scene to the police ambulances, rescue teams, and fire-fighters for their own safety, he said.
