Ras Al Khaimah: The overloading of two power cables caused a blackout in Al Nakheel and Al Muaireed, after both cables burst into flames.
A Civil Defence Department officer said the first incident in Al Nakheel was reported by the Police Operations Room. Firefighters moved to the scene to find the fire had destroyed the cable. No casualties were reported but there was major damage.
The firefighters were then instructed to move to the second scene in Al Muaireed. Back-up teams were dispatched to handle the second blaze.
The officer said the case was reported by a passer-by who noticed the fire. No casualties were reported and the amount of damage is being estimated. The officer said firefighters summoned the emergency units of the Federal Electricity and Water Authority (FEWA) to the scenes. The officer said the reason for the fires was the extra load the cables had been handling.
