Egypt's suspension was unanimous
A CONFERENCE of Islamic Foreign Ministers decided to suspend Egypt from membership of the 43 member of the Islamic Conference Organisation (ICO). The decision, taken at the meeting's first plenary session, was unanimous.
Liverpool are champs again
LIVERPOOL finally clinched the English soccer championship when they swept to a commanding 3-0 victory over Aston Villa. It was the third time in four years that manager Bob Paisley has steered Liverpool to the title.

China agrees to compensate US
THE United States and China signed an agreement intended to pave the way for a trade pact between the two countries. It covered US financial claims on China dating back to the 1949 Communist takeover and the freeing of Chinese assets frozen in the US. The United States had maintained that these issues had to be settled before a full trade agreement could be reached because of US law relating to compensation for property seized abroad.

Jerusalem declared capital of Palestine
JERUSALEM was declared capital of Palestine by the 10th Conference of Islamic Foreign Ministers in Fez, Morocco. The Ministers also adopted a plan to create an Islamic Capitals' Organisation including Jerusalem and called on the 42 members of the Islamic Conference Organisation (ICO) to increase their financial and political support for the campaign to free the city from Israeli control.

IN THE most stunning finish to an English Football Association (FA) cup final in years, Arsenal, with a goal one minute from time, triumphed 3-2 over Manchester United at Wembley in the presence of a 100,000 crowd.

Gaddafi cautions US
LIBYAN leader Muammar Gaddafi was quoted as saying the Egyptian-Israeli peace treaty would bring the Arabs closer to the Soviet Union. Colonel Gaddafi said the treaty would increase hostility towards the United States. He stated: "I expect the Palestinian people will intensify their resistance against Israelis and the Egyptian government will take a hostile and unfriendly stands towards the Arabs."

Saudi Arabia bans all Egyptian papers
SAUDI Arabia has banned Egyptian newspapers and magazines. No reasons were given for the action, which followed a similar move by Jordan. Other Arab states were expected to follow Jordan and Saudi Arabia, whose actions conformed with Arab sanctions against Egypt for signing a peace treaty with Israel.
