Bergisch Gladbach: Anyone who suggests Zinedine Zidane should retire doesn't know soccer, says his opponent in today's World Cup quarterfinals, Brazil's Roberto Carlos. The two men have been teammates for five seasons at Real Madrid and Roberto Carlos is one of six Brazil players at the World Cup who was in the team that lost to France in the 1998 final. Zidane scored twice in France's 3-0 win. Today, Brazil and France will face each other in Frankfurt. "I haven't spoken to Zidane," Roberto Carlos said. "But it will be very beautiful to play against Zinedine." Zidane, who also won the 2000 European Championship and several other titles with Real Madrid and Juventus, was chosen Fifa player of the year three times. Roberto Carlos said it was too early for a player of Zidane's caliber to turn his back on international soccer.
"A player like Zidane can be 30, 40, 50 years old and he will always know what to do with the ball at his feet," Roberto Carlos said. "Those who say he must stop, they don't have any idea about soccer."
