Sharjah: Two adults, three children and an unborn baby died in two separate accidents on Thursday night, police said.

In the first accident, two Indian girls, Ayeesha Diya, 6, and her sister Dina Ruqiya, 3, who were sleeping in the back of their car parked on the hard shoulder on the Al Dhaid-Sharjah highway, died instantly when another car slammed into them at 11.30pm, police said.

Their pregnant 29-year-old mother was rushed to Al Qasimi Hospital where a baby boy was delivered after an emergency operation. The condition of the baby was not immediately known, but the mother is under intensive care.

A relative of the family said that Haroun Rashid, the father of the two girls, had parked on the hard shoulder because he was sleepy while driving back to their home in Sharjah from Al Dhaid. He was unhurt in the accident but the driver of the other car is also in serious condition.

In the second accident in Al Ain, an Asian man, a pregnant woman and her stillborn child and an 8-year-old died when the tyre of their four-wheel drive vehicle burst at high speed and the vehicle tumbled for 140 metres, police said. There were 14 passengers in the vehicle, according to Abu Dhabi police.

The 26-year-old woman died in the hospital after delivering a baby boy, who was also declared dead. Other passengers sustained serious injuries.
