Dubai/Ras Al Khaimah: Two people were killed and 11 others sustained injuries in separate road accidents during Eid Al Fitr holidays.

The Dubai Police Control and Command Room reported four serious accidents which resulted in two deaths and 11 injuries.

In one accident, a man was killed in a collision between two cars on Emirates Road near Arabian Ranches Roundabout. The first car was burnt and its driver was killed on the spot. Police said speeding and not leaving enough space between vehicles were the causes.

Another Asian man was killed on Jebel Ali-Lehbab Road when a truck hit his car which was parked on the side of the road. The truck hit the car from the back causing the car to overturn and killing the driver.

Ten people sustained injuries in a collision on Dubai-Al Ain Road between two car. A speeding car hit the metal barrier and swerved to the opposite side of the road and hit another car injuring 10 people in the two cars.

In a separate accident on Al Khail Road, a passenger sustained serious injuries as a result of speeding and reckless driving.

Two children sustained injuries after being run over by a pick-up near Umm Suqueim Park in Dubai yesterday morning.

Police said one Emirati child aged 12 sustained serious injuries when a pick-up driver, an Indian, ran him over, while the other Emirati child sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital.

In Ras Al Khaimah Police patrols detained four people, seized 15 vehicles and registered 101 violations during the Eid Al Fitr vacation. A total of 328 road accidents were reported with 50 injuries of different types.

Meanwhile, Dubai Police security awareness teams distributed greeting cards and sweets among the public, motorists coming to Dubai and motorists who committed minor traffic offences on Eid Al Fitr.
