Dubai: A woman who thought she will never see her two children after a traffic accident still recalls details of that dark night.
M.S., a 30-year-old Tunisian living in Sharjah, said she had finished work at the office around 9pm that day in March 2005 and was ready to head home.
"The first thing on my mind when I got into my car that night was to get home soon, spend some time with my two daughters and then sleep. I had already planned for the entire night the minute I got out of the office," M.S. said.
She was driving along Shaikh Zayed Road towards Sharjah and was in the second right lane.
"I was driving at a speed of 80 or 90km/hr and was relaxed. Suddenly, I saw a speeding car coming in the same lane where I was driving. I thought that the car would change to the fast lane so I did not move," M.S. said. She said that was the last thought on her mind before the car struck her from behind.
"My car shook violently and for a second I could not believe I was hit by a car. My car moved forward for some metres and stopped. My head hit the side window, I felt numb and thought I might die and never see my daughters again," M.S. said.
She escaped the accident with some head injuries and bruises on her hand and left leg. She was treated on the spot. "I was told the driver who was a young man, sustained moderate injuries and he could have been drunk at that time."
She said that night did not go according to her plans, but she was happy to survive the accident.
M.S. said she is more cautious while driving now, especially on highways.
