Dubai: The British Embassy here has confirmed that a British national is being questioned by police in connection with the murder of Lebanese singer Suzan Tamim.
Mariam Saleh, the embassy's Information and Public Affairs Officer, said: "We can confirm that a British national is helping police with their enquiries and we are offering him consular assistance."
Major General Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina, Acting Chief of Dubai Police, was contacted by Gulf News, but refused to comment.
Suzan was found stabbed to death in her Jumeirah Beach Residence apartment last Monday, where she had been living for the past eight months.
Police discovered her body after a family member in Sharjah filed a report.
Missing
Her body was repatriated to her native Beirut on Monday. The funeral was held the same day.
She appeared on talent quest show Studio Al Fan on LBC TV in 1996 and played a role in the musical Ghadat Al Kamilia by musician Elias Rahbani. Before her death, she had been missing for several months.
Riad Al Azzawi, a Briton of Iraqi origin, wrote letters to some Arabic newspapers, claiming to be Tamim's third husband and that he knew who had killed her, Gulf News previously reported.
Members of the British consular team are likely to have visited the man being questioned and can contact his family if requested. The embassy could not confirm if the British national was of Iraqi origin.
