Dubai: Many residents on Monday complained that they repeatedly received messages from the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), saying 'This is an SMS for 5009'.

An RTA official said the messages were sent only on Monday. He said it was a case of "programme modification" and RTA would investigate the matter.

A Gulf News reader on Monday said she received around 175 messages with the same content, which started coming in at 7.30pm on Monday and continued until 4am yesterday.

Another reader said he received 36 messages with the same content from Monday afternoon until yesterday morning. He said he called the Salik hotline but it was constantly busy.

One resident said she started receiving alerts that her Salik account was "below the set recharge value" at around 4pm. By 7pm, she had received over 100 messages. "I am receiving a message every two minutes," she said.
