Dubai: A motorist who is fined for insufficient credit on Salik cards while passing through a toll gate will have it waived automatically if he recharges his card within two days of the offence, Gulf News has learnt.

The concession has been given to benefit motorists who would have to register for the Salik card account and paste Salik tags on the front windscreen of the cars to use toll-controlled roads.

The fine for passing through the toll gates without insufficient credit on the card is Dh50. However, the offender will have it waived automatically if he manages to replenish his Salik account within two days of being fined.

Also, motorists will be informed through text message in case they do not have enough credit.

The first phase of Dubai's road toll system called 'Salik' will be in place from July 1. There will be two toll gates, including one each on Al Garhoud Bridge and the Fourth Interchange (near Mall of the Emirates) on Shaikh Zayed Road. Motorists will be charged every time they pass through a toll gate.

Salik tags

Every motorist intending to use the toll-controlled road will have to get a Salik tag. Companies or individuals, who have more than one vehicle, do not require to have separate Salik accounts for each vehicles. They can open one account in their name and can get separate tags for all their vehicles working under the same account.

Motorists are required to call the Salik customer service centre to deactivate their Salik tags if they want to sell their vehicles.
