Baghdad: The trial of Saddam Hussain and seven former aides resumes on Sunday in Baghdad, days after a UN expert questioned the legitimacy of the tribunal judging him. The defendants are to testify as to their role in the massacre of Dujail villagers, before the tribunal will listen to witnesses called by the defence, Chief prosecutor Jaafar Mussawi said. Defence lawyers did not say if they would attend Sunday's hearing – the 15th one in a trial that opened in October. On Friday, UN expert Leandro Despouy had underscored in a recent report to the UN rights commission some "notorious failings" in the ongoing trial and with security. Despouy had said that Saddam and other defendants should answer to "an international tribunal which could count on the cooperation of the United Nations".
